FAQs

Q) How often should I visit the dentist for checkups and cleanings?

The general recommendation is that you visit us every six months. Of course, to get an exact recommendation tailored to your specific needs, visit with Dr. Murrey at Westworth Village Family Dentistry for an initial appointment. During this appointment, Dr. Murrey can tell you if you’re suffering with any serious oral health conditions, like gum disease, which would require extra attention.

Q) What is a digital X-ray, and how is it different from traditional X-rays?

When you compare digital X-rays to traditional radiography, you see a great reduction in radiation emission – in fact, it’s between 80% and 90%! Meanwhile, the images produced will be detailed and almost immediate, displaying on a chairside screen for ease and comfort. No more paper waste is created, and there’s no need to use toxic chemicals, either!

Q) How do I know if I’m suffering from gum disease?

For a lot of people, there are no symptoms of gum disease until the condition reaches an advanced stage. That’s why it’s so important to visit the dentist twice a year for checkups. However, if you notice bleeding gums, redness, tenderness, loosening of teeth, chronic bad breath, or a bad taste in your mouth, you will definitely want to make an appointment with us for an exam to determine if you’re suffering with gum disease and to what degree.

Q) What happens if missing teeth are not replaced?

If you don’t replace missing teeth – even just one – the adjacent and opposing teeth will start to shift into the space contributing to and increased risk of cavities and gum disease, a change in the shape of your bite, TMJ pain, and can eventually cause the loss of more teeth.  We offer various options to replace teeth, so let us help you avoid these issues at Westworth Village Family Dentistry.

Q) At what age should my child start having regular dental visits?

Dr. Murrey recommends bringing your child in as soon as he or she gets that first tooth.  The first visit is simply an introduction of the child to the dentist and the dental office.  The dental office is a scary place for a lot of people, and at Westworth Village Family Dentistry, Dr. Murrey wants to create a positive, relaxed environment for your child's first dental experience.  Through a lot of experience in children's dentistry, and having a child of her own, Dr. Murrey knows firsthand how important those initial experiences can be in developing a trusting relationship.  Contact us for that first appointment.
